Sobha Group Commits INR 1,000 Crore to Transform Sabarmati Riverfront in Partnership with Gujarat Government

Dubai’s esteemed Sobha Group has stepped forward as a critical player in transforming the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, India. The journey towards revitalizing this urban gem began in 1997 when the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) established the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with a vision to elevate the riverfront into a significant urban asset.

On a significant Tuesday, in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Sobha Group, a distinguished international luxury realty developer, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government to embark on the third phase of the Sabarmati Riverfront Project.

The founder of Sobha Group, PNC Menon, pledged a philanthropic contribution of INR 1,000 crore over the next five years towards the development of Sabarmati Riverfront. This generous commitment aligns with Menon’s promise to donate 50% of his wealth to initiatives that support communities and foster comprehensive development and progress nationwide.

The Sabarmati Riverfront Project unfolds in three phases, each designed to enhance the riverfront’s appeal and utility. The first phase, spanning 11.5 kilometres, serves as a scenic promenade catering to pedestrians and cyclists while providing access to the river. It features many public amenities, including picturesque parks and gardens, riverside walkways, the Atal Bridge, a biodiversity park, state-of-the-art sports facilities, and an event centre.

Phase 2, greenlit in October 2020, extends the existing 11.5-kilometer stretch of Riverfront East by an additional 5.8 kilometres, further enriching the riverfront experience.

Phase 3 is set to be a collaborative effort between SOBHA Realty Dubai and the Gujarat state government. This phase symbolizes a shared vision to create sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant urban spaces that uplift communities and stimulate economic growth. This phase encompasses a 4.5-kilometre stretch on both sides of the Sabarmati Riverfront and promises to aesthetically transform this additional space, breathing new life into the Sabarmati Riverfront and leaving a lasting legacy for the city of Ahmedabad.
